Sticks & Stones

Based in Portland, Oregon, Stephan Alexander comes from a family of artists. His father is a renowned painter and his mother is an abstract artist and a writer. Growing up, Stephan was inspired by his mother’s Architectural Digests, sparking his interest in design at an early age. Stephan launched Sticks & Stones in 2009, and currently balances their design and creative direction. His work is inspired by unusual material combination, the Megafauna, ambient music, and understated design. Stephan plans to expand Sticks & Stones into millinery, furniture design and eye wear.

Sticks & Stones offers the world’s finest natural materials showcased as wearable art. Their pieces speak to the relationship between organic materials. Wood, museum grade fossils, prehistoric ivories, fine metal and gemstones are all materials that are employed in their collections.  Sticks & Stones jewelry has been featured in Cool Hunting, Women’s Wear Daily, ESPY Gift bags, Daily Candy NYC, Trendhunter, Bloomberg Business week, and is carried in select Neiman Marcus stores and select boutiques nationwide.

Gen Art showcased Sticks & Stones debut on October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

We Are Handsome - Swimwear

The idea was to create spellbinding works of art; what resulted was We Are Handsome. Born on the cusp of summer 2009, these colourful palettes of inspiration and finely shaped cuts recall the halcyonic, sun drenched days of old, of Indhra Chagoury’s big beautiful Queensland childhood, of Jeremy Jules Somers’ Big Bad Smoke.  We Are Handsome is the embodiment of Indhra and Jeremy and everyone else who has a love for the beautiful things in life. Their desire to create, design and share perfection has understandably made them a hit with the world, but We Are Handsome still remains true to their roots.  Every piece is 100% Australian designed, every thread is Australian sewn and every We Are Handsome suit is loved.

Gen Art is proud to showcase We Are Handsome’s runway debut, October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

Actress and co-founder of MyFDB.com, Zoe Saldana, will be the host.

Stand and Deliver

Corey Parks doesn’t just know rock and roll couture, she LIVES it.  Touring throughout the nineties and earning herself a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, Corey is known as one of the best female bass players to hit the stage.  While on the road, Corey began making jackets for stylists and friends who liked her custom rock denim jackets, adorned with aged patches and hand stitching. She caught the eye of Maxfield owner, Tommy Purse, with her homespun threads.  It was Purse that gave her the big break, commissioning several pieces for his influential boutique and then buying her first sewing machine for leather so that she could keep up with the demand. Corey has designed the tour costumes for artists such as Rihanna, Marilyn Manson and Ciera and has dressed rock icons including Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and Steven Tyler.  Six months ago, Corey Parks began working on her first Stand and Deliver collection. She started to make clothes she would want to wear; clothes that made you feel strong, where the leather was soft and the cuts were perfect. Her inspiration lead her to put down the axe and pick up the sewing needle and dedicate herself 100% to making the line a success.

Gen Art showcased Stand and Deliver’s runway debut, October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

ODYLYNE

Founded in 2009, ODYLYNE is derived from all things beautiful. Designed by Stephanie Lampkin, Los Angeles based fashion designer, as an extension of herself, a bit of vintage Halston, a little boho chic, and just the right amount of edge. Her inspirations behind the designs are deeply rooted in the vintage world…where female artists set trends while breaking the rules of tongue-in-cheek fashion. ODYLYNE’s concept stays true to the original theme of creating the whimsical drama of mystery and sexiness without all the fuss.  It just feels good and makes being a goddess pretty damn effortless. Odylyne’s Fall 2010 debut proved to be an immediate success by opening and selling out in top retail stores in Los Angeles. The brand is a simple concept of great easy designs that you can feel comfortable wearing all the time.

Gen Art featured ODYLYNE’s runway debut, October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

The night was hosted by actress and co-founder of MyFDB.com, Zoe Saldana.

Funktional

Funktional was launched in 2009 by Los Angeles-based designer, Jennifer Park.  After graduating with a degree in Economics from University of California, Irvine, she wanted to pursue her passion in apparel by going back to receive her degree in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in L.A.

Upon graduation in 2000, Jennifer designed for several contemporary brands.  With that experience, she was able to hone her skills.  During that time, she felt the need to design a line inspired by her fashion sense and her target customer: one who demonstrates modern styling, understands refined details, and luxurious, high-quality fabrics at reasonable prices to meet every woman’s budget.

Gen Art showcased Funktional’s runway debut, October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

The event was hosted by actress, and co-founder of MyFDB.com, Zoe Saldana.

Dear Creatures

Dear Creatures is a labor of love for designers Bianca Benitez and Rob Sinclair.  It all started on a whim in 2007 by Bianca Benitez, who hailed from a merchandising background, and Rob Sinclair, one of the founders and designer of the men’s label Brown Sound Clothing.  Since the day the pair met, they have been cultivating each other’s creativity and their common love for decades past and unique perspective on design to create an overall aesthetic of clean, classic style.  Together the pair decided to start Dear Creatures and launched their first season in the Fall of 2008.

Harmonizing traditional elements with a modern sensibility, Dear Creatures offers a full womens collection which spins sentimental tales of whimsy season after season. With an understanding of decades past, Dear Creatures interprets each season with an eye for visual optimism.  Dear Creatures looks to the future of fashion, with a nod to the past.

71 STANTON

Designer Ellis Yu’s launch of 71 STANTON for Pre-Fall 2011 is nothing short of a life-long dream.  She’s dreamt of fashion and clothing since her weekly movie nights with her mom as a little girl watching classic films such as “My Fair Lady” and “Roman Holiday.” 71 STANTON is a name rooted in personal history for Ellis, the year she was born and the city in Orange County, CA where she lived after moving to the US in 1994. Firmly grounded by her knowledge and background in manufacturing and production, Ellis started to craft her launch for 71 STANTON.  The Pre-Fall 2011 debut collection perfectly showcases Ellis’ vision for the brand. 71 STANTON is a blend of the easiness of California style with a continental sophistication.   The collection demonstrates this concept by using casual fabrics such as jersey and melding it with silk chiffon. The results beautifully create a light layering effect that could be worn by any modern woman.

Gen Art showcased 71 STANTON’s runway debut, October 22nd, during the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show presented by Moroccanoil.

Actress and co-founder of MyFDB.com, Zoe Saldana, was our host for the night.
